Shaping Peace Together
The United Nations’ 2020 peace theme is ‘Shaping Peace together’ and the UN has devoted this 21st day of September 2020 to strengthening the ideals of peace, through observing 24 hours of non-violence and cease-fire. The overarching message is that we are not each other’s enemies! This year, we are observing the international day of peace in the context of a global pandemic, Covid-19, which in itself has been a great threat to our peaceful coexistence, even threatening our very existence.
The Anglican development services join the global family in observing the international day of peace. As a faith-based organization, we are guided by the words of Romans 12:18, ‘Strive to live peaceably with all’. As we consider the peace situation within our context, we realize that there are many factors that have served to undermine peace in our lives. When we consider the number of suicide cases reported in the media, killings in families, and the rising incidences of mental health issues in the society, it is evident that many people are struggling to nurture peace in their own lives. And with this scenario, it becomes difficult to be agents of peace.
On this day thus, ADS Western endeavors to:
- Pray for peace at all levels.
- Advocate for justice as a driver of peace.
- Mobilize Churches and communities within her jurisdiction to seek ways of nurturing and sustaining peace.
“MAY PEACE FLOW LIKE A RIVER”
