ADS Western Recognized for Agroecology Excellence at Kenya’s National Symposium

Agroecology is no longer a fringe practice, it’s fast becoming a national priority for food security, climate action, and economic resilience in Kenya. As communities face degraded soils, erratic rainfall, and rising food costs, agroecology offers a grounded alternative rooted in local knowledge, ecological balance, and sustainable farming.

ADS Western joined over 430 participants at the 2nd National Agroecology Symposium held on 10–11 July 2025 at the Kenya School of Monetary Studies in Nairobi. The high-level event, convened by PELUM Kenya, brought together representatives from all corners of the country and beyond under the theme “Scaling Up Agroecology Initiatives for Soil Health, Climate Resilience, Economic Stability and Sustainable Healthy Food Systems.”

As a member of the PELUM Kenya network, ADS Western was proud to be part of this important platform that showcased progress and innovation in agroecology in Kenya. The symposium featured keynote speeches, plenary discussions, and a vibrant exhibition from member organisations and partners championing sustainable farming across the country.

ADS Western participated actively in the symposium, engaging delegates through an exhibition that highlighted our work with communities in advancing agroecology practices. From improving soil health to promoting local seed systems and farmer-led conservation agriculture, the organisation shared practical experiences from across its programme areas.

During the closing session of the Agroecology Symposium 2025, ADS Western received a national award for its outstanding contribution to agroecology in Kenya. The organisation was officially recognized and celebrated as the best-performing member of the PELUM Network for having the widest outreach and coverage in agroecology practices. This award reflects the impact of our work across multiple counties and the trust built through partnerships with farmers, local leaders, and grassroots institutions.

The recognition from PELUM Kenya adds momentum to ADS Western’s ongoing commitment to building resilient, inclusive, and sustainable food systems. Being honoured on a national platform affirms the importance of community-driven approaches in achieving lasting agricultural transformation.

We thank our partners, staff, and the communities we serve for their role in making this milestone possible. As the movement for agroecology in Kenya continues to grow, we remain focused on scaling practices that protect the environment, enhance livelihoods, and ensure food security for all.
