Limited access to essential medicines remains one of the major barriers to quality maternal and child healthcare in many rural communities across Kenya. Frequent stock-outs and inadequate medical supplies continue to place expectant mothers, newborns, and young children at greater risk of preventable illness and complications, particularly among vulnerable households.
To help address this challenge, Health Partners International Canada (HPIC), in partnership with Anglican Development Services (ADS) Western and ADS Kenya, has donated a consignment of essential medicines to ACK Namasoli Hospital in Kakamega County and ACK Namboboto Health Centre in Busia County through the Pamoja Project.

The donation is expected to strengthen the two health facilities’ capacity to provide timely and quality maternal and child healthcare services by improving the availability of life-saving medicines. The support will benefit thousands of community members who depend on these facilities for antenatal care, safe deliveries, postnatal services, childhood illnesses, and routine healthcare.
Access to essential medicines is a cornerstone of quality healthcare. According to the World Health Organization, consistent availability of these medicines is critical in reducing preventable maternal and child deaths, improving treatment outcomes, and building resilient health systems. By addressing medicine shortages at the facility level, the donation will help ensure that more mothers and children receive the care they need when they need it most.
Before the medicines were officially handed over at ACK Namasoli Hospital, The Rt. Revd. Rose N. Okeno, Bishop of Butere Diocese, offered a special prayer of blessing over the supplies. She reaffirmed the Church’s commitment to advancing quality healthcare and supporting partnerships that improve the health and well-being of mothers, newborns, children, and vulnerable families.
The intervention demonstrates the impact of collaborative partnerships in strengthening community health systems. Through the Pamoja Project, HPIC, ADS Western, and ADS Kenya continue to work alongside local health facilities to improve access to essential healthcare services, reduce preventable illnesses, and build healthier, more resilient communities across western Kenya.
